Losing weight is can sometime be frustrating, but if you remember these four simple nutrition rules, you will end up winning the weight loss battle and never have to worry about falling for the latest fad diet again.
1) Focus on eating whole foods and stay away from processed foods. Your diet should be made up of mostly whole foods. Whole foods are foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. These are the foods found around the perimeter of the grocery store such as your lean meats, fresh fruits, dairy, and vegetables.
The processed foods that you want to stay away from are found in the interior isles of the grocery store packaged in bags or boxes. If you are serious about wanting to lose weight than try to avoid the processed foods at all costs. The reason you want to stay away from processed foods is because they are loaded with high fructose corn syrup, salt, preservatives, and other chemical additives that our bodies recognize as toxins and can’t process correctly.
These are the foods responsible for weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and other health related diseases.
2) Avoid eating sugars in all forms. Sugar is the hidden ingredient to most foods that causes weight gain due to the calories and the way our bodies process sugar. For the most part, if you just eliminated sugar from your diet, you will start losing weight right away. The problem is that sugar can be disguised in many forms and has a lot of different names which can make it difficult to avoid. Sugar and weight loss are directly related so if you eat too many sweeten foods and beverages throughout the day, you can easily rack up way too many calories and hinder your weight loss efforts without realizing it.
3) You have to eat to lose fat. Most people think that if they don’t eat, they will lose weight. It’s true you have to burn more calories than you consume in order to lose weight, but there is a catch. If you do not eat enough calories in your diet, your body will hold on to stored fat rather than burning it off which makes it much more difficult to lose weight in the long run.
The main reason most weight loss diets fail is because they require you to restrict the amount of calories that you consume which leads to the breakdown of lean muscle tissue and a decrease in your metabolism.
4) Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Water is key factor because it is used in every metabolic function in your body. Allowing you to metabolize fat and eliminate toxins that are stored in your fat cells. You should be drinking water all day long instead of drinking soda and juices that are loaded with sugar and calories. When you are drinking your calories they can added up quickly before you know it.
